Eligibility is unchanged from smaller systems. The installation must be residential, the modules must be on the ALMM list, and the vendor must be registered on the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Some states add their own incentives on top, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala, so check your state scheme alongside the central one. So the honest answer is conditional. 5kW is worth it if your monthly consumption genuinely exceeds roughly 450 units, because the additional generation offsets electricity you are already buying at full tariff. Every unit you export instead of consume earns you the export rate, which is typically lower than what you pay, so oversizing is the one mistake that quietly ruins solar economics.
